Applying Data Analytics to Infrastructure Decisions

The idea

Platform teams already collect the raw material for this: metrics, incident timelines, capacity trends, deploy frequency. It’s rarely treated as a dataset in its own right, and it’s rarely connected to the analytical methods taught in an MS MIS program. This note is an early attempt to write down what that connection could look like.

Planned questions

• Which operational signals are actually worth modeling, versus just dashboarding.
• Whether simple statistical methods (trend lines, anomaly thresholds) beat ad hoc alerting rules in practice, using fictional, sanitized data.
• How this kind of analysis could inform prioritization decisions, not just incident response.

This is intentionally short right now. It will grow alongside MS MIS coursework.
